Most procedures are performed under local anesthesia, either topical (anesthetic drops in the eye to be operated on) or with a local anesthetic block (by injecting the anesthetic drug into an area of the orbit surrounding the eye). In the second case, local anesthesia, the injection will be performed while you are asleep for a few moments of intravenous sedation. This way you will not feel any discomfort.
Afterwards, the anesthetized area will remain like this, without sensations, and will begin to regain sensitivity after 3 to 5 hours.
Throughout the process, the anesthesiologist will administer mild sedation to put you in a pleasant state of relaxation.
