Medical areas of interest

  1. Medical-Surgical Vitreoretinal Pathology, with exclusive dedication from 1991 (when the Retina Department of the Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol in Badalona was inaugurated) until 2001. Starting in 2001, the Vitreoretinal Unit of ICO expanded to the current 5 surgeons.
  2. Refractive and Lens Surgery. Beginning in 2001, Dr. D. Andreu initiated the period of refractive surgery with the inauguration of the LASIK Unit at ICO, encompassing all refractive procedures. Currently, Refractive Surgery is one of the most significant departments in the institution.
  3. He currently combines collaboration in the Retina and Vitreous Unit, especially for complex cases, with the Direction of Refractive Surgery and the practice of the multiple surgical techniques applied by this Unit.
  4. He has over >20 years of experience in the implantation of pre-crystalline lenses (ICL), multifocal lenses, and toric lenses associated with lens surgery.
  5. Special dedication to reconstructive surgery of the traumatized eye, particularly in iris surgery (iridoplasty).
  6. Given his training and experience in surgery in the two main segments of the eye (the Anterior Segment involving cornea, lens, iris, and the Posterior Segment with the retina and vitreous), he has a particular interest in all diseases affecting both ocular segments.
  7. Since attending the ESADE management school, Dr. D. Andreu combines clinical practice with the Direction and Coordination of the institution's teams, with a special focus on initiating new projects.
  8. Author of the development of the ophthalmological and optometric management software Eyebox (2023), which has driven the digitalization of all care and surgical processes.
