VERTE Oftalmología Barcelona has come a long way since it was created in 1989 known as “Institut Comtal d’Oftalmologia” offering ophthalmology service for the most important mutual insurance company for occupational accidents in Catalonia. At that time, it was difficult to imagine that IO· ICO would become one of the most recognized monographic medical centers of the city. We have grown to have ICO·1, ICO·2, 24-hour emergencies and CEM. These accomplishments have not been fortuitous but the result of the effort made by the entire team, as well as the trust of thousands of patients placed in us over the years.

Since the beginning of IO·ICO, one of our goals has been to get continuously as close as possible to excellence in care and patient safety. After years of dedication and rigor, IO·ICO Barcelona currently has multiple accreditations of which we are very proud. In the first place, we obtained the UNE-EN 179003 of Sanitary Services. Risk Management for the Patient, UNE-EN-ISO 9001 for Quality Management Systems. Requirements and UNE-EN-ISO 14001 on Environmental Management Systems, in addition to the Accredited Medical Web (WMA) seal of the Official College of Physicians of Barcelona (COMB). In 2017, we were also awarded the QH (Quality Healthcare) accreditation promoted by the Institute for the Development and Integration of Healthcare (IDIS). This important endorsement was also received by the centers of the Innova Ocular national network to which we belong.

In 2020, it should be noted that we have been the first ophthalmological center, together with the Innova Ocular group, to obtain the Global Safe Site Excellence certificate at national level. The certificate consists of 40 protection measures. In order to obtain it the periodic cleaning and disinfection, the air renewal plans and the reduction of the capacity, among others, have been audited. This prestigious certificate offers ICO patients accredited management of the necessary protection measures for proper sanitary hygiene in the process of medical appointments, diagnostic tests and ophthalmological surgeries.
